Werner von Blomberg (1878-1946) was a career German military officer, who rose to Weimar Minister of Defense and then Minister of War under the Nazi government. He was the first Generalfeldmarschall named by Hitler, and had long been pro-Nazi in the Army.

As commander-in-chief of the German military forces, he was the target of rivalry from Hermann Goering and Heinrich Himmler. He began to displease Hitler with a hesitancy to go to war.

Hitler appeared at his wedding to a woman who proved to have a questionable past, arguably concealed by Goering and Himmler. Embarrassed, Hitler forced him from office, and took on the Supreme Command personally.
