Posterior pituitary
Peptides secreted from the nerve endings of magnocellular neurosecretory cells in the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nucleus*Oxytocin
Anterior Pituitary
Peptide hormones synthesised in cells of the anterior pituitary gland.
- Growth hormone
- Thyroid stimulating hormone
- Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
- Prolactin
- Adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH)
- Luteinizing hormone (LH)
Intermediate Lobe of pituitary gland
Hypothalamus
Peptide releasing factors, secreted from neuroendocrine neurons into the hypothalamo-hypophysial portal vessels from the nerve endings of neurosecretory neurons.
- Somatostatin (from neurons of the periventricular nucleus)
- Growth hormone releasing horone(from neurons of the arcuate nucleus)
- Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH, also known as LH releasing hormone, LHRH)
- Corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH)(from neurons of the paraventricular nucleus)
- Thyrotrophin releasing hrmone (TRH)(from neurons of the paraventricular nucleus)
Also
- Dopamine, a prolactin inhibiting factor, secreted from neurons of the arcuate nucleus
Gonads
Steroid hormones produced by the testes or ovary
Adrenals
- Cortisol
- Aldosterone
- Corticosterone
- Epinephrine (also known as Adrenaline)
Adipocytes
Gastrointestinal Tract
Liver
- Insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1)
