This article is about Texas Rangers (baseball). For other uses of the term Texas, please see Texas (disambiguation).

The Texas Rangers are a Major League Baseball team based in the Dallas, Texas metropolitan area. The team was founded in 1961 as the Washington Senators, an expansion team in the American League. Later, the team moved from Washington, D.C. to Arlington, Texas before the start of the 1972 season, when they became the Rangers.

They are not to be confused with the Washington Senators franchise that was an original AL team, later relocated to Minnesota and renamed as the Twins. [1] [2] [3]

Championships

The team has never had a championship-winning season where they won the World Series. They were American League champions, but lost in the World Series, two times, in 2010 and 2011. [4] [5]

Retired Numbers

The following uniform numbers are retired in that players, managers, and coaches of the team will no longer use them. For non-players, the person's role in the organization is also listed. [6] [7]

  • 7 Ivan Rodriguez
  • 10 Michael Young
  • 26 Johnny Oates (manager)
  • 29 Adrian Beltre
  • 34 Nolan Ryan
  • 42 Jackie Robinson (retired across major league baseball)
